How consent works here
Nothing that needs your consent is set before you give it. The site sets Google Consent Mode to denied for everything before any tag loads, which means that even if a measurement tag is configured, it cannot write anything until you choose. That is the opposite of the usual arrangement, where the banner appears after the cookies are already set.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the button in the sidebar, or the one in the footer of every page. Withdrawal takes effect immediately and we re-ask everyone whenever the categories change.
The categories
- Strictly necessary
- Cannot be switched off, because without them the site cannot remember that you said no. These set no cookie that leaves your browser and are not used to track anything.
- Preferences
- Small things you set yourself, such as a filter on the beach finder. Declining costs you nothing except having to set them again.
- Analytics
- Counting which pages are read, so the thin ones get rewritten. Nothing is sold, no profile is built, and IP addresses are anonymised.
- Marketing
- Measuring whether a booking or hire link led to anything, which is how the writing is paid for. Declining does not change a single thing you see on this site.

What is never used
- No advertising network and no retargeting pixels.
- No social media tracking scripts.
- No fingerprinting, and no attempt to recreate a declined cookie by other means.
- No cookie walls. Declining everything gives you the whole site.
Browser controls
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear site storage, and doing so will also delete the record of your choice here, so you will be asked again. Blocking strictly necessary storage will not break the site; it will only make the banner reappear.
