The standard this site holds itself to
There is a great deal written about Gozo and most of it is the same paragraph recycled. The test applied here is simple: does this page tell a reader something they could act on, that they could not get from the official tourism site or the first page of search results?
If the answer is no, the page is not published. Sixteen of the eighteen village pages are unpublished as this is written, for exactly that reason. An unwritten page is not built, does not enter the sitemap, and is not advertised in the navigation.
Where the facts come from
- Official statistics from the National Statistics Office of Malta and from Invest Gozo, cited by release where a figure matters. Where two official sources disagree, we say so and explain which one we use. One of them, a modelled estimate showing a fall in Gozo tourism, contradicts both the direct survey and Invest Gozo, so we do not publish it.
- Primary local sources: parish and council information, Heritage Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority, and the published regulations themselves rather than somebody's summary of them.
- Live data from Open-Meteo for wind, sea and temperature, fetched by your browser at the moment you read the page, so it is never a stale number baked into a build.
- Editorial judgement for anything that is a judgement: which winds ruin a bay, whether a track is passable in an ordinary car, whether a walk is worth it. These are stated as judgements, not dressed up as data.
What we do not do
- No scores out of a hundred. A number implies a measurement. Where this site has a verdict it gives it in a word and explains it in a sentence, so you can disagree with the reasoning rather than the arithmetic.
- No invented completeness. If a bay has no toilets, the page says there are no toilets rather than listing fifteen amenities on every page and letting you work it out. That practice is why most beach directories read identically.
- No paid placement disguised as a recommendation. Affiliate links pay for the site and are marked. They do not buy a mention, an ordering, or a kind adjective. When a business listings layer arrives, paid entries will be labelled on the page.
- No fabricated reviews, ratings or testimonials. Ever, including in examples and mock-ups.
Dates, and what they mean
Every page carries the month it was last checked. That is not a decoration; it is the honest limit of the page's accuracy. Opening hours change, kiosks close, tracks wash out. A page checked eight months ago should be read as eight months old.
When a page is corrected, the date changes. When it is only reformatted, it does not.
Where AI is used, and where it is not
This site is built with AI assistance and there is no point pretending otherwise. What that means in practice: drafting, structuring, and the code are machine-assisted. Facts are checked against the primary sources above, Maltese orthography is verified in the built output, and anything a machine asserted without a source either gets a source or gets cut.
Pages are not generated in bulk from a template with a place name swapped in. That technique is what produced the thin directory content that search engines have spent the last two years demoting, and it is the specific mistake this site was built to avoid.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed. That especially includes the things only a local would know: whether the jeep still runs down to San Blas, whether a kiosk has shut, which track has washed out this winter.
Write to hello@gozolife.com or use the contact page. Corrections are made without argument and without requiring proof, unless the correction is itself contested, in which case we will say on the page that it is disputed.
Independence
GozoLife publishes this site independently. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by the Ministry for Gozo, the Malta Tourism Authority, any local council, or any business described on it.
