Ras il-Ħobż

A submerged pinnacle off the south coast, known to divers as the Middle Finger, with the MV Karwela wreck nearby.

  • Għajnsielem, Gozo
  • Over rock
  • Very quiet

What it is like

A dive site rather than a swim. The pinnacle rises from about fifty metres to within a few metres of the surface, which is why divers call it the Middle Finger. Snorkellers can see the top of it on a calm day.

The wind

South-facing and fully open to it. A nofsinhar or a xlokk makes the shore entry unsafe over the rock.

Nearby wrecks

The MV Karwela and the MV Cominoland were scuttled off this stretch of coast and sit within recreational depth. Most people dive them from a boat out of Mġarr rather than from the shore.
