What it is like
Xlendi is the opposite of Ramla: small, deep, enclosed by cliff on both sides, and built up along the front. The swimming is off a short shingle beach or straight off the rocks, and it drops away quickly. The restaurants along the quay are the reason a lot of people come at all.
The wind
The bay opens to the southwest. An lbiċ or a punent funnels straight up it and the water turns rough fast, which is also when the swell comes over the promenade. In a tramuntana or a grigal it is glass, which makes it the natural alternative when Ramla is unusable.
The cliff walk
The path out along the southern side towards Ta’ Ċenċ is worth the twenty minutes, particularly in the hour before sunset.
