Marsalforn Bay

Gozo's seaside town, with a small sandy beach at the head of the bay and most of the island's hotels and restaurants around it.

  • Marsalforn, Gozo
  • Walk in off sand
  • Very busy

What it is like

More town than beach. The sand at the head of the bay is modest and gets packed in summer, but Marsalforn is where the restaurants, the dive operators and most of the accommodation are, so a lot of people swim here simply because it is where they are staying.

The wind

The bay faces north. In a tramuntana the swell comes right in and the sand disappears under the water at the top of the beach. In anything southerly it is calm.

Walking west

The coast road west towards Qbajjar and Xwejni passes the salt pans, which are worth the walk in late afternoon when the light is low across them.
